The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially confirmed Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Walewale Constituency.
The confirmation was made following a meeting held by the NEC on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, according to an official release signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.
Dr. Mahama’s selection came as the party conducted a thorough vetting process following the resignation of the former parliamentary candidate, Lawyer Lariba Zuweira Abudu, from the race.
The NEC’s decision ultimately led to the endorsement of Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, who now steps into the role as the NPP’s parliamentary flagbearer for the constituency.
The release expressed high hopes for Dr. Mahama’s candidacy, indicating confidence that his leadership will ensure the NPP maintains its strong foothold in the Walewale Constituency.
Party members and supporters were called upon to rally behind him, showing unwavering support ahead of the upcoming elections.
“May God richly bless our homeland Ghana and make the New Patriotic Party great and strong,” the statement concluded, affirming the party’s optimism for victory in the region.
The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Lariba Abudu, withdrew from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the constituency, after the Electoral Commission (EC) annulled the primary contest between Abudu and Dr. Kabiru Mahama due to a ballot snatching incident.
The incident occurred during the primaries’ re-run, where a man identified as Kamara Bawah grabbed and destroyed several ballot papers before being apprehended by police.
