Britain’s Alfie Hewett remains on track for an Australian Open clean sweep after reaching the finals in both wheelchair singles and doubles.
In the singles semi-final, second seed Hewett defeated Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez 6-3, 6-3 to set up a showdown with world number one Tokito Oda on Saturday.
Oda, who beat Hewett in last year’s final, will look to defend his title against the determined Brit.
Later, Hewett teamed up with fellow Briton Gordon Reid to secure a spot in the doubles final.
The duo, who have dominated Melbourne with five consecutive titles, overcame Spain’s Martin de la Puente and Ruben Spaargaren of the Netherlands 6-4, 6-4. They will face Spain’s Daniel Caverzaschi and France’s Stephane Houdet in Friday’s final.
Meanwhile, Andy Lapthorne also kept British hopes alive in the quad wheelchair doubles.
Partnering with Sam Schroder of the Netherlands, Lapthorne powered past the Australian-Canadian duo Heath Davidson and Robert Shaw 6-1, 6-2 to reach the final. They will take on Israel’s Guy Sasson and Dutchman Niels Vink.
In the women’s wheelchair doubles, Briton Lucy Shuker and Japan’s Yui Kamiji fell short in their semi-final, losing 7-5, 6-1 to China’s Li Xiaohui and Wang Ziying.
