The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Desmond Ofei has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Ghana U-20 team, the Black Satellites.
Ofei’s departure is part of a wider technical restructuring within the national football setup, aimed at enhancing focus and improving performance across all levels.
Appointed in 2023, Ofei led Ghana’s U-20 side to significant milestones, including a gold medal at the 2024 African Games and a second-place finish at the WAFU Zone B Championship.
These achievements secured the Black Satellites a place at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. However, the team was unable to progress to the semifinals at the continental championship in Egypt, ultimately missing out on qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Following his exit from the U-20 role, Ofei will fully transition to his duties as assistant coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, where he is expected to bring his experience and developmental insight to the squad.
In addition to his coaching achievements with Ghana’s youth teams, Ofei boasts an impressive résumé, having previously worked with Royal Antwerp FC’s U-18 and U-21 teams, Lokeren U-21, and Lusitano SAD.
He also holds the position of Head of High Performance at the GFA’s Technical Directorate, a role central to the development of Ghanaian football talent.
The GFA is expected to announce a successor to Ofei in the coming weeks as preparations continue for the rescheduled WAFU tournament and the 2025 U-20 AFCON.
