A routine heat in the men’s 5000m at the París Olympics, turned chaotic as several athletes ended up on the track.
The race gradually intensified, reaching a fever pitch as the runners entered the final lap.
Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed was the first to fall just as the bell rang, leaving him far behind the leading pack. But the real drama unfolded as the leaders approached the home straight.
A clash between Team GB’s George Mills and France’s Hugo Hay set off a chain reaction, causing four runners to crash to the ground. Mills collided with two runners on his outside, tripping another competitor behind them.
Clearly frustrated, Mills confronted Hay at the finish line, brushing off the Frenchman’s attempts to make amends.
However, Hay managed to finish seventh and secure a spot in the final, while Mills, after picking himself up, finished 18th.
