Ghana President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed Dodzie Numekevor from his role as Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) effective immediately.
This decision follows the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) withdrawal of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium’s license to host international matches.
According to multiple sources, President Akufo-Addo instructed the removal of officials responsible for renting the Baba Yara Stadium for a church event six days before the AFCON 2025 qualifier against Angola.
Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, through his Chief Director William Kartay Caesar, questioned Numekevor, seeking an explanation for why he should not face penalties for the NSA’s management issues, which have embarrassed both the presidency and the nation.
Numekevor had until Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to respond to the query. However, due to dissatisfaction with the state of sports infrastructure under his leadership, President Akufo-Addo decided to remove him from office on Tuesday afternoon.
Numekevor had been serving as interim Director General of the NSA since February 26, 2024, succeeding Professor Peter Twumasi, who had held the position for six years.
