The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned the public against a fake notice circulating on social media, falsely claiming that the 2026 BECE school selection exercise has commenced.

The Service, in a statement issued on June 14, clarified that it has not announced the start of the school selection process and called on candidates, parents, guardians, teachers, and the public to disregard the false information being widely circulated.

According to the GES, the misleading publication instructed candidates to select and submit five preferred schools ahead of the placement process and claimed there was no deadline for submissions. The notice also directed parents and candidates to seek assistance through an unofficial WhatsApp contact.

The GES stressed that the announcement did not originate from the Service and should be completely disregarded. It assured the public that all information relating to school selection and placement would be communicated through its official channels and authorised platforms.

The Service also warned parents, guardians, and candidates against disclosing their personal information to persons behind the fake notice, cautioning that doing so could leave them vulnerable to fraud and other forms of exploitation.

GES therefore urged all stakeholders to verify education-related information before acting on it and rely only on official government and education sector communication channels.
