President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the newly appointed governing board of the Lands Commission, entrusting them with the mandate to oversee the agency’s operations nationwide.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, September 2, where the President administered both the oath of office and the oath of secrecy to the board members.

In his address, President Mahama underscored the importance of gender balance in public service leadership. He called for renewed efforts to revisit and implement the Affirmative Action Law to ensure that at least 30% of public positions are held by women.

The President’s comments followed a concern raised by Deputy Lands Minister Yusif Sulemana, who pointed out the underrepresentation of women on the current board. Presently, the Chief Executive of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Prof. Nana Ama Klutse, is the only female member.

President Mahama encouraged the board to not only fulfill their duties with diligence but also to reflect the nation’s broader commitment to equity and inclusion.
