Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, stole the show at the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards in Marrakesh, Egypt, taking home two prestigious awards.
The 32-year-old South African shotstopper won the Men’s Interclub Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year awards, cementing his status as one of Africa’s finest goalkeepers. Williams made history by becoming the first South African to receive the Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Williams’ impressive performances for Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana earned him these accolades. He guided Sundowns to the 2023/24 CAF Champions League semifinals and helped Bafana Bafana secure a bronze finish at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). Additionally, Williams contributed to Sundowns’ 7th consecutive league title in the 2023/24 season.
