Euro 2024: Germany vs Scotland- Match Report

Euro 2024 kicked off perfectly for the host country with Germany clinching a commanding 5-1 victory over Scotland, who were down to 10 men for the entire second half.

Germany had a rapid start in Munich, controlling the game, and within 10 minutes, Florian Wirtz struck the first goal of the tournament off the post.

The hosts kept up the pressure, and around 10 minutes later, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, a constant threat to Scotland, smashed the ball past Angus Gunn for their second goal.

The three-time champions continued to dominate Scotland, whose tough first half got worse just before halftime with a last-ditch Ryan Porteous challenge resulting in a penalty and red card.

Kai Havertz converted the penalty, giving Germany a three-goal lead at halftime.

The second half followed a similar pattern as Germany kept pushing, keeping Scotland pinned near their penalty area.

Niclas Fullkrug came on to score Germany’s fourth before an Antonio Rudiger own goal gave Scotland a moment of relief.

However, Borussia Dortmund’s Emre Can sealed the deal with a fifth goal in the dying moments, marking Germany’s emphatic win in the opening match of the European Championship.
