Senegal and AS Monaco’s rising star, Lamine Camara, has been crowned the Best Young Player of the Year at the 2024 CAF Awards. This prestigious honor solidifies Camara’s status as one of Africa’s most exciting young talents.
The 20-year-old midfielder’s career has been on an impressive trajectory, with notable performances for both club and country. Camara’s wonder goal against The Gambia in the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON squad showcased his skill and potential.
After developing at Génération Foot in Senegal, Camara spent a season at FC Metz before joining AS Monaco at the beginning of the season. His move to Monaco has provided him with the opportunity to compete in the Champions League.
Camara received the award ahead of Ivorian contenders Oumar Diakite (FC Reims) and Karim Konaté (RB Salzburg). Although absent from the ceremony due to club commitments, the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Augustin Senghor, accepted the trophy on his behalf.
