Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has confirmed that Black Stars duo Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will miss significant game time due to injuries sustained while on international duty with Ghana.
Issahaku suffered a serious knee injury during Ghana’s 1-1 draw against Angola in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. The 20-year-old winger underwent surgery to repair an ACL tear and will miss the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.
Despite the setback, Issahaku remains optimistic, confirming he’s in good spirits after the successful surgery. In his debut English Premier League season, Issahaku has impressed with two assists in 11 games, including a Man of the Match performance in Leicester’s 3-2 comeback win over Southampton.
Jordan Ayew, who scored a brilliant goal in the same Angola match, picked up an undisclosed injury and missed Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Niger. Cooper confirmed the injury but downplayed its severity, expressing uncertainty about Ayew’s availability for Leicester’s upcoming game against Chelsea.
Since joining Leicester from Crystal Palace, Ayew has scored two goals in 10 games. His absence would be a significant blow to the Foxes’ attacking lineup.
Steve Cooper acknowledged the impact of both injuries on Leicester City’s English Premier League campaign. “It’s a blow to lose both players, especially with their quality and experience,” Cooper said.
Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco has raised concerns about the team’s future. The absence of key players like Issahaku and Ayew will only exacerbate these challenges.
