Ameenu Shardow is moving from the Black Stars team manager’s office to a wider mission after being appointed Head of the Ghana Football Association’s Strategic Diaspora Program.
The appointment is part of the GFA’s plan to build stronger links with Ghanaian players and football stakeholders living outside the country. Shardow will focus on finding, engaging and building relationships with players born or raised abroad who are eligible to represent Ghana.
His new assignment comes at a time when the pool of Ghanaian talent outside the country continues to grow. Players with Ghanaian heritage are developing across different football systems, making early identification and communication increasingly important for national team planning.
Ameenu Shardow will work with the GFA Technical Directorate, National Teams Department and Ghanaian diplomatic missions abroad. He will also engage parents, scouts, clubs, academies and football communities as the Association seeks a more organised approach to diaspora talent.
His previous experience with the Black Stars could prove useful in the new role. Team administration, player relations and communication will form an important part of his work as he tries to build stronger connections between young players abroad and Ghana’s national teams.
The move also signals a change in how the GFA wants to manage its talent pipeline. Rather than waiting until players have established themselves at senior level, the new programme is designed to create relationships much earlier in their development.
For Ghana, the stakes are clear. The Black Stars have a long history of benefiting from players developed outside the country, while competition for eligible dual-national talent has become an increasingly important part of international football.
Ameenu Shardow’s new job will therefore take him beyond the touchline and into a global search for Ghanaian football talent. Meanwhile, the GFA is expected to announce a new Black Stars team manager to take over the duties he previously handled.
