The Black Challenge are heading towards another major test on the world stage, and Theophilus “Theo” Sampah has been handed a key role in Ghana’s 2026 WAFF World Cup campaign.
The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC Ghana) has appointed Sampah as the team’s official Media Officer for the tournament in Mexico. He will oversee media accreditation, press operations, official communication and media protocols before, during and after the competition.
The WAFF World Cup will take place in San Juan de los Lagos from November 13 to 22, 2026. Twenty-four national teams will compete for the world title, giving Ghana another chance to measure its growing reputation against the best in amputee football.
His work will go beyond sending updates. Sampah will liaise with tournament organisers, handle accreditation matters and connect journalists with the team, while helping supporters stay close to the Black Challenge throughout their World Cup journey.
Ghana will enter Mexico with a strong continental record behind them. The Black Challenge won the African amputee football title in Tanzania in 2021 and followed it with gold at the 2023 African Para Games in Accra.
They retained their African crown in Cairo in 2024 after beating Morocco 2-1. That victory also secured Ghana’s place at the 2026 World Cup, setting up a bigger challenge on the global stage.
NPC Ghana has already named a provisional 20-player squad for the national camp. The group includes three goalkeepers and 17 outfield players from clubs and programmes in Ghana and Türkiye, with the final World Cup squad still to be confirmed.
For the Black Challenge, the journey to Mexico is about more than football. It is also a chance to showcase Ghana’s talent, resilience and growing presence in para sport, with Sampah tasked with making sure that story reaches the public.
