President John Dramani Mahama says Ghana’s Accra Reset agenda will require stronger support and cooperation from the international community to achieve its objectives.
According to the President, Ghana’s efforts to industrialise and build a more self-reliant economy will only be sustainable if local industries can access larger markets, particularly within Africa.
President Mahama made the remarks in New York on September 21, 2026, during a high-level side event on the Accra Reset and the Global Reset Dialogue on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
He said Ghana was undertaking reforms across several areas, including the economy, fiscal management, governance and industrial development.
President Mahama, however, stressed that domestic reforms must be matched by changes in the wider global economic system.
He cited Ghana’s plans for local production of essential medicines as an example, saying the country’s health sector reset should go beyond constructing health facilities and depending on external sources for critical medical supplies.
He said the government’s approach is to strengthen domestic pharmaceutical production, with state procurement arrangements and access to regional markets to support local manufacturers.
The President also linked the Accra Reset to initiatives such as economic self-reliance, local value addition, improved public health infrastructure, transparent governance and the government’s 24-Hour Economy programme.
He maintained that these efforts would have greater impact if Ghana could operate within a global system that provides fairer opportunities for developing economies.
