The Accra Sports Stadium is gearing up to host Ghana’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Niger on Monday, November 18, 2024. The Black Stars will face Niger’s Menas in their quest to secure a spot at the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.
Ghana currently sits third in Group F with 2 points, trailing leaders Angola by 10 points and second-placed Sudan by 5 points. A win against Niger is vital to improve their standing and keep their qualification hopes alive.
The Accra Sports Stadium, which previously hosted Ghana’s qualifier against Sudan in October, has undergone refurbishment to meet CAF’s approval standards.
The stadium has been closed for league matches to preserve its condition for upcoming international games, including the Niger clash and 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Ghana Premier League teams, such as Accra Hearts of Oak and Dreams FC, who were using the Accra Sports Stadium as home grounds, have opted for alternative venues to ensure the stadium’s readiness for CAF suctioned games.
