Aitana Bonmati has cemented her status as one of the greatest female footballers of all time, becoming the sixth player to win The Best FIFA Women’s Player award twice. The Barcelona and Spain superstar retained the title she won last year, edging out 15 fellow nominees with 52 voting points.
Bonmati’s incredible season saw her score in the UEFA Women’s Nations League final, as Spain claimed the title. She repeated this feat with Barcelona, winning another UEFA Women’s Champions League crown and earning the Player of the Season award. Her impressive performances also helped Barcelona secure the domestic treble.
This latest award adds to the long list of personal achievements for Bonmati. She has already won Ballon d’Or Féminin twice, the UEFA Women’s Nations League and Player of the Finals, UEFA Women’s Champions League, Player of the Match, and Player of the Season, FIFA Women’s World Cup and Laureas Sportswoman of the Year.
By winning The Best FIFA Women’s Player award twice, Bonmati joins an elite group of players, including Mia Hamm, Carli Lloyd, Marta, Birgit Prinz, and teammate Alexia Putellas. Her achievements solidify her position as one of the greatest female footballers of all time.
