The NPP’s special electoral college whose mandate is to shortlist ten aspirants competing for the flagbearer slot of the party has given Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia an overwhelming victory.
The super delegates in all the 17 centers across the country gave wide margins of votes to the Vice President with a total of 629 out of the 927 total vote cast. 4 ballots were rejected.
The surprising element well hammered in this election is the showing of the Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The maverick MP polled 132 out of the total vote cast, surpassing the former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen who many polls tipped to win second place with 95 votes.
Former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto who trails at 4th place with 36 votes representing 4.10% of the total vote cast.
Meanwhile, the fate of two candidates who tied in the race, Francis Addai Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko will be decided in a run off election on September 2, Chairman of the party’s elections committee, Mike Oquaye has said.
Now, the NPP will go into the November elections with these four; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyerematen, Dr. Afriyie Akoto plus whoever will emerge winner in the September 2 runoff.
