Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has officially tendered his resignation.
In a letter addressed to the ECG Board Chairman, Mahama cited personal reasons for his decision to step down, effective in two weeks.
“It has been a difficult decision, but after considerable reflection, I have determined that stepping down is in my best interest for personal reasons,” Mahama stated in his resignation letter.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve ECG, acknowledging the support of the Board and the trust placed in him by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mahama was appointed by President Akufo-Addo and took on the role of ECG Managing Director on May 16, 2022. His resignation, after two years and four months in office, has come as a surprise to many in the energy sector.
Prior to this role, Mahama served as a non-executive director at ECG and held various positions in both the private and public sectors, including roles at GIHOC Distilleries, Gulfsouth Forest Products, Dubik & Associates, and Wilkins Engineering. He is also a legal practitioner and an alumnus of the University of Ghana.
Despite the unexpected nature of his departure, there has been no official comment from ECG or government sources on the circumstances leading to his resignation.
