Four weeks ago, FC Barcelona secured the signing of 18-year-old Ghanaian talent David Oduro from Accra Lions.

Oduro now has joined Barcelona on a permanent 3-year deal with an option to extend for an additional 2 years.

This move marks a significant milestone, as Oduro becomes the first player to transition directly from Ghana to FC Barcelona after starting in the youth ranks.

Earlier this year, he trained with Chelsea in hopes of landing a contract there before he went to Barcelona for trials.

Oduro has been one of the standout performers in the local league, having played in 15 of the 17 matches for Accra Lions during the 2023/24 season.

His manager, Yussif Worjoor Abubakar, emphasized that player development requires hard work from both the athlete and their handlers.

He noted that it took him several viewings of Oduro before deciding to take him on as a client, indicating that their strategic planning spanned about a year and a half.

Importantly, Abubakar clarified that Oduro’s contract with Barcelona is not merely an academy agreement but a full professional contract.
