In an epic showdown at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the Black Stars of Ghana secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over Central African Republic (CAR) in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, with forward Jordan Ayew stealing the show with a remarkable hat-trick.
The match kicked off with high intensity in a charged full to capacity stadium and it was Jordan Ayew who made an immediate impact, converting a penalty in the sixth minute to give Ghana an early lead.
The Crystal Palace star showcased his aerial prowess as well, heading in a goal in the 60th minute to level the score.
Ayew wasn’t done yet, as he completed his hat-trick in style in the 69th minute, demonstrating his clinical finishing with a close-range strike that found the back of the net.
His performance was nothing short of exceptional, justifying coach Otto Addo’s decision to include him in the starting lineup.
Adding to Ghana’s attacking prowess, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku contributed a crucial goal with a deflected shot in the 62nd minute, completing the Black Stars’ remarkable comeback.
Despite CAR’s Louis Mafouta also scoring a hat-trick, including a stunning free-kick in the 90th minute, Ghana held on in the pouring rain to secure the victory.
Mafouta’s efforts weren’t enough to overcome Ghana’s resilience, especially in the second half when they put up a spirited display.
The match also saw Brandon Thomas-Asante making his international debut for the Black Stars, adding depth to the squad.
With this impressive win, Ghana moves to the top of Group I standings with nine points from three wins in four games, showcasing their determination and skill on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
