The Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’ has intensified calls for accountability from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging Ghanaians to consider voting them out in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The indefinite adjournment, announced by Speaker Alban Bagbin on Thursday, November 7, followed the absence of NPP members in the Chamber, resulting in a lack of business for lawmakers to discuss. Despite the NPP having originally called for the recall session, their failure to attend halted parliamentary proceedings.
Expressing deep concern, Dr. Forson attributed the absence of NPP MPs to internal disorder within the party, which he argues is impeding essential legislative duties. He stressed that their absence not only stalls critical discussions but also places an undue financial burden on the state.
Speaking to the media after the adjournment, Dr. Forson accused the NPP of “willfully causing financial loss to the state” by neglecting their parliamentary responsibilities.
He further criticized the NPP’s actions as a disregard for governance, urging Ghanaians to hold them accountable at the polls for failing to address urgent national issues.
“I am deeply concerned and disturbed by what has happened. This is an abuse of the Standing Orders of the House and amounts to causing financial loss to the state. We call on Ghanaians to respond accordingly.
“They are out of ideas for addressing the nation’s issues, resorting instead to campaign antics like dancing and distributing money,” Dr. Forson said. “Let no one be deceived—the NDC is not here to distract; we are simply awaiting elections, hoping Ghanaians will vote out this incompetent government.”
