Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed has played a part in Sunderland AFC’s triumphant return to the English Premier League, following their 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
The Black Cats, who have endured an eight-year absence from the top flight, came from behind to beat the Blades in a dramatic encounter.
Tyrese Campbell opened the scoring for Sheffield United in the first half, but Sunderland fought back with Eliezer Mayenda equalising after the break.
Substitute Tom Watson then sealed the win with a late goal, sending Sunderland fans into celebration.
Although Salis was an unused substitute in the final, the 24-year-old midfielder made a significant contribution throughout the season.
On loan from French Ligue 1 side RC Lens, he made ten appearances for Sunderland during the regular campaign.
Despite being hampered by injuries, Salis impressed with his composure and tactical awareness in midfield when called upon.
Sunderland now face a decision regarding the Ghana international’s future. The club holds the option to make his move permanent or to negotiate an extension of his loan for another season.
Salis is also expected to be named in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London, as the Black Stars prepare for international competition.
The midfielder’s return to form and his role in Sunderland’s promotion highlight his resilience and potential to shine on bigger stages, whether in England or on international duty.
