Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has pleaded not guilty to charges related to financial misconduct involving the transfer of $2 million in public funds.

The plea was entered on Monday after Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi missed two earlier court dates due to health-related issues.

He is being tried alongside Solomon Asamoah, the former Chief Executive Officer of the GIIF.

The case centres on a controversial $2 million transfer to a private account owned by Africa Investor Holdings.

The funds were reportedly meant to support a proposed Sky Train project, but prosecutors argue the transaction lacked proper authorisation and due diligence.

According to the prosecution, the accused failed to adhere to established legal and administrative protocols during their tenure, resulting in a significant financial loss to the state.

The charges include wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic, intentional misapplication of public funds, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Both Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi and Mr. Asamoah have denied any wrongdoing and are expected to present their full defence as the trial continues.
