In a symbolic gesture underscoring his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, President John Dramani Mahama has handed over two vehicles that were gifted to him during his tenure to the state.

The announcement was made on Monday, 5 May, the same day the President officially launched a new Code of Conduct for government appointees. The timing of the handover was described as deliberate, intended to set the tone for a new era of ethical governance in public office.

The two vehicles were formally presented to Chief of Staff Julius Debrah by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu. During the brief ceremony, Mr. Ofosu explained that the gesture was in line with the provisions of the newly launched Code, which requires public officials to surrender gifts received in the course of their official duties.

“This action reflects the President’s personal commitment to the principles outlined in the new Code of Conduct,” said Mr. Kwakye Ofosu. “Public officials are now expected to relinquish gifts acquired during the performance of their duties, in order to avoid any conflict of interest or perception of impropriety.”

The Code of Conduct, which outlines ethical standards for political appointees, forms part of a broader initiative to improve accountability and restore public trust in government institutions. It includes strict guidelines on contract awards, conflict of interest disclosures, and the handling of gifts.

President Mahama has reiterated that those who fail to comply with the Code will face disciplinary measures, including reprimand, suspension, or dismissal.
