Great Britain’s Jodie Grinham, who is seven months pregnant, and her teammate Nathan Macqueen secured gold in the mixed team compound final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, defeating Iran 155-151.

This victory marks Grinham’s second medal in Paris, after she claimed bronze in the women’s individual compound competition on Saturday by beating fellow Brit Phoebe Paterson Pine.

The British duo held a slim one-point lead (39-38) after the first end of the final, but Iran managed to level the scores at 77-77 by the halfway point. However, a couple of 8s from Iran’s Hadi Nori allowed Grinham and Macqueen to edge ahead by two points (115-113) heading into the final end.

They sealed the gold with a flawless score of 40 in their last round.

Grinham, already a mother to a toddler son, Christian, has drawn significant attention for competing while pregnant, using her participation to inspire women worldwide.

Despite facing a scare last week that required a visit to a Parisian hospital for a check-up, she was cleared to compete and continued to show her resilience.

Grinham, representing Wales, teamed up with Scotland’s Nathan Macqueen, who was paralyzed in a motorbike accident at 18.

The pair initially finished second in their qualification round, which earned them a bye into the quarter-finals.

They went on to defeat Australia 150-141 in the last eight and outperformed Italy 156-149 in the semifinals to secure their spot in the final, where they ultimately triumphed over Iran to claim the gold medal.
