The Electoral Commission has announced the final results of the Obuasi East parliamentary election following a recount and re-collation process that attracted significant attention.
Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, has been declared the winner, successfully retaining his seat in Parliament.
The recount was initiated due to discrepancies identified during the initial collation process, prompting scrutiny from political stakeholders, election observers, and local residents. Representatives from the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) closely monitored the exercise, which was conducted under tight security at the Electoral Commission’s Greater Accra Regional Office.
The final figures revealed that Patrick Boakye-Yiadom secured 18,558 votes, narrowly defeating the NDC’s Samuel Aboagye, who garnered 18,539 votes. An independent candidate, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, received 424 votes.
