The Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated that Parliament is yet to officially receive Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2462, otherwise known as the Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Regulations 2022, which is under consideration for revocation.
The call for the revocation of this LI follows calls from various groups, demanding a pragmatic approach to combating the environmental menace caused by illegal minning , commonly known as Galamsey.
A statement issued by Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, indicated that the L.I. had been forwarded to Parliament for action and a revocation.
According to the Majority leader, once the instrument is formally presented to the floor of Parliament, the house will address it as part of the ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining and protect the natural resources of the country.
