The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Asuogyaman, Pius Hadzide, has made a bold promise to his constituents, vowing to facilitate their children’s travel to the United States for the 2026 World Cup if he is elected.
Hadzide, who has a controversial past involving the 2017 Australian Visa scandal, emphasized his connections and experience in the sports sector as a pathway for Ghanaian youth to participate in international sporting events.
In 2017, Pius Hadzide, then Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, was involved in a scandal surrounding Ghanaian nationals who pretended to be journalists to obtain Australian visas for the Commonwealth Games. Although initially suspended, he was later cleared of wrongdoing and reinstated by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
During a campaign event, Hadzide touted his ability to assist individuals in traveling abroad, citing his previous experience in helping people travel to Australia. He promised to support the youth of Asuogyaman in exploring opportunities abroad, particularly in sports.
Hadzide’s promise has sparked debate among constituents and on social media.
It remains to be seen whether Hadzide’s promise will resonate with voters and help him secure a seat in Parliament.
