With the elections fast approaching, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of attempts to rig the elections and to incite chaos in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday November 21, the NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye claimed that this is part of a broader strategy by the NDC, led by retired COP Kofi Boakye, to intimidate voters and discourage support for the party on election day.
“Information available to the NPP reveals that several months ago, the NDC has been training thugs in pockets of communities, including Obuasi East Constituency under the guise of private security training. These individuals are being prepared to disrupt the electoral process, particularly in the Ashanti Region which is the NPP stronghold. We are aware that recently on November 11, 2024, the NDC committee on mining led by one Toney Aubynn, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, held a secret meeting with some NDC small-scale miners at the Conference Hall of Mawuli Hotel in the Obuasi West Municipality” he noted.
He warned that any attempts to disrupt peace in the party’s strongholds would be met with firm resistance and would ultimately fail.
The NPP also debunked the allegation by the NDC of a plot with Brigadier General Michael Opoku, the General officer commanding the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces to rig the polls in the Ashanti Region
“The allegations made by the Communication and the NDC are baseless. It is devoid of any iota of credible evidence and represents yet another desperate attempt by the NDC to raise tension and distract the people of Ghana from their own misdeeds” he said.
