The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed a second case of Mpox, bringing the total number of infections in the country to two.

This new case involves the mother of a young boy who was diagnosed with the virus last month. Health officials are now working to closely track and contain both cases.

In an update on the situation, Dr. Dennis Laryea, Deputy Director of Disease Surveillance at GHS, assured the public that swift actions are being taken to prevent the virus from spreading further.

Mpox, commonly referred to as Monkeypox, is a viral disease that can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected individual or contaminated objects. Symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.

GHS is calling on the public to be cautious, follow hygiene guidelines, and seek medical attention if they notice any symptoms. Authorities have stepped up public awareness efforts, partnering with health facilities to ensure they are well-prepared to manage potential new cases.

Additional resources have been allocated to monitor individuals who may have come into contact with the confirmed cases, particularly within the communities most affected.
