Mirra Andreeva has made history by becoming the first 17-year-old to reach the women’s final at Indian Wells since 2001, overcoming defending champion Iga Swiatek in the semifinals.

With this win, Andreeva became the second player to defeat the world number two in consecutive tournaments, following her victory over Swiatek in the Dubai quarter-finals last month.

Andreeva extended her impressive winning streak to 11 matches with a thrilling 7-6 (7-1) 1-6 6-3 win.

After a dominant second set loss, Andreeva showed resilience and composure, battling back to clinch the final set.

Reflecting on her performance, Andreeva praised her mental fortitude, admitting that despite being overwhelmed in the second set, she remained determined to fight for every point.

This achievement makes Andreeva the youngest woman to reach the Indian Wells final since Kim Clijsters in 2001.

She will now face world number one Aryna Sabalenka, who convincingly defeated Madison Keys 6-0 6-1 in the other semifinal.

Sabalenka, who lost to Keys in the Australian Open final, was determined to rebound from that heartbreak and displayed focused aggression to secure her spot in the final.

Andreeva’s stunning run to the final at Indian Wells marks a significant milestone in her career, and she now faces her toughest challenge yet against Sabalenka.

Her victory over Swiatek showcases her growing potential, while Sabalenka’s powerful display against Keys proves she is ready to defend her top ranking.

The final promises to be a thrilling showdown between youth and experience.
