The Majority Leader has criticized the establishment of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee by the incoming administration, describing it as “needless” and without any constitutional foundation.
Speaking during the dissolution of Parliament, he argued that the ORAL Committee, which aims to recover unlawfully acquired assets, is driven by personal vendettas rather than serving the national interest.
“ORAL is a needless committee and has no constitutional backing,” he said, questioning its relevance and legitimacy.
He calls on the incoming government to focus their limited time on the policies set out to be carried out including the abolishing of some the e-levy and betting taxes, appointing 60 ministers among others.
While raising concerns about the committee’s intent, the Majority Leader also commended the outgoing government for its legislative achievements, highlighting the passage of 41 bills during its tenure. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts between both sides of the House that contributed to this accomplishment.
Looking ahead, he expressed hope for further cooperation with the incoming administration to advance national development.
The ORAL Committee has sparked debate since its announcement, with some stakeholders questioning its legality and necessity. As the new administration prepares to take office, the committee’s activities and effectiveness are expected to face intense scrutiny from both lawmakers and the public.
Observers have called for bipartisan approaches to ensure governance remains focused on the country’s progress rather than political differences.
