LeBron James, star of the Los Angeles Lakers, has shared that the opportunity to play alongside his eldest son, Bronny, has brought him “a lot of life.”
As he enters his record-equalling 22nd season in the NBA, James is poised to make history by taking the court with Bronny, 19, who was selected by the Lakers as the 55th pick in June.
At 39, James comes off a successful summer, having helped Team USA secure a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris.
This year, however, he feels an added motivation, expressing how working alongside his son revitalizes him.
“It’s a lot of excitement, a pure joy to come to work every day, put in the effort with your son, and watch him grow,” James remarked during the Lakers’ media day. “We push each other, and we push our teammates.
It’s a joyous moment for our family, which is pretty awesome. It gives you a lot of life.”
As he approaches his 40th birthday in December, James also noted that playing with NBA legends like Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry during the Olympics helped rejuvenate him.
“Being with 11 other incredible talents brings joy to playing at a high level,” he explained. “For me, at my age and with the miles I’ve put in, being able to perform at that level made me realize I still have a lot left in the tank to contribute to a team’s success.
“It felt fantastic to play meaningful basketball at the highest level, where every possession matters. Experiencing that intensity again was truly rewarding.”
The NBA season kicks off on October 22, with the Lakers facing the Minnesota Timberwolves following the champions, the Boston Celtics, who will play the New York Knicks.
