An Accra High Court has dismissed an application filed by Bernard Mornah, seeking to overturn the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to disqualify him from contesting in the upcoming elections.
The court, in its ruling on Monday October 21, upheld the EC’s decision, effectively ending Mornah’s bid to reinstate his candidacy.
Bernard Mornah filed the application after the Electoral Commission disqualified him on grounds of alleged non-compliance with certain electoral requirements.
He argued that the decision was unjust and sought the court’s intervention to reverse it, claiming that the EC’s actions were arbitrary and breached his rights as a candidate.
He was also demanding “A declaration that the disqualification of the 1st Applicant from contesting the 2024 Public Presidential Elections is illegal as same contravenes Articles 12(1) and (2), 21(3), 23, 34(1), 35(4), 37(2)(b), 37(4), 40(c) and (d), and 41(b) and (d), and 55(3) and (10) of the 1992 Constitution, and Regulation 9 of the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.1.127
