The High Court in Accra has granted bail to Charles Bissue and Andy Thomas Owusu in the sum of GH¢200,000 each, with two sureties—one of whom must be justified.
The two are facing 15 counts of corruption-related offences, including abuse of office for profit. Both pleaded not guilty during their appearance in court and have been directed to deposit their passports with the court registry.
As part of their bail conditions, they must report to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) once every month. The case has been adjourned to May 29.
The charges stem from an investigation by the OSP into alleged corrupt practices linked to illegal mining activities. Bissue, a former Secretary to the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), and Owusu are accused of facilitating illicit deals in the mining sector.
In the first count, Bissue is alleged to have used his public office for personal gain by receiving GH¢15,000 from one Benjamin Adjapong through Owusu on or around January 22, 2019, in Accra.
