President John Mahama has announced that Ghana will offer 1,000 scholarships to students from across ECOWAS member states to study in Ghanaian universities
He made this declaration at the official launch of the ECOWAS at 50 celebrations held at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The initiative, he said, is part of Ghana’s commitment to promoting regional integration and development through education and youth empowerment.
“To mark this moment and strengthen regional bonds, Ghana is offering 1000 scholarships to tertiary students from across the sub region to study in our universities,” President Mahama declared on Tuesday, April 22.
He stressed that this gesture underscores Ghana’s dedication to fostering unity, cooperation, and capacity building within the sub-region as ECOWAS marks its golden jubilee.
“This is not just a gesture, it is an act of solidarity. It is a bridge to a future where our young people will grow up seeing each other not as foreigners, but as partners,” he added.
The ECOWAS at 50 launch attracted leaders and dignitaries from across the West African bloc, who gathered in Accra to reflect on the achievements of the regional body and chart a new path for peace, security, and prosperity.
The official logo for the anniversary was also unveiled as part of the event.
