The Ghana Para Athletics Association recently held a special ceremony to honor the President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC-Ghana), Mr. Samson Deen, for his unwavering support and leadership in the para-sports community.

Foster Kwarteng, the President of the Ghana Para Athletics Association, presented international medals to Mr. Deen on behalf of the para-sport community and the nation, following the athletes’ stellar performances at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.

At the prestigious event, Ghana’s para-athletes Gilbert Ampiah and Zinabu Issah made an indelible mark on the world stage, securing three medals.

Sixteen-year-old Gilbert, a rising star in para-athletics, earned his first international medal with a remarkable jump of 1.73 meters in the Men’s T44 High Jump.

His achievement was not only a personal milestone but also a testament to Ghana’s growing presence in international para-sports.

Zinabu Issah, a national record-holder and multiple medalist, further demonstrated her dominance by clinching two medals. She captured a gold in the Women’s F57 Discus Throw with a new record throw of 29.25 meters and added a silver in the F57 Shot Put with an impressive throw of 8.54 meters.

Her achievements further cemented her status as one of the leading figures in para-athletics.

The medals were presented to Mr. Deen as a token of gratitude for his continuous support of the athletes and to inspire the next generation of para-athletes in Ghana.

This symbolic gesture also reinforced the vision of transforming Ghana into a continental powerhouse in para-sports, driven by a commitment to excellence and inclusivity.

Mr. Deen expressed his profound appreciation during the presentation, praising the athletes for their outstanding performances and resilience.

He encouraged young Ghanaians living with disabilities to dream big, train hard, and aspire to reach global podiums.

His words were a call to action, inspiring them to aim for greatness and break through barriers, just as Gilbert and Zinabu had done.

The Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech served not only as a platform for global competition but also as a qualifier for upcoming major events, including the Commonwealth and Paralympic Games.

As Ghana’s para-athletes continue to excel on the world stage, the country’s hopes for further success in international competitions are higher than ever.

This achievement marks another important milestone in the ongoing journey to elevate para-sports in Ghana, and the continued support from leaders like Mr. Deen will undoubtedly play a key role in shaping the future of para-athletics in the nation.
