Formula E is set to host an all-female test aimed at promoting diversity and equality in motorsport.
The event will take place at the Ricardo Tormo circuit near Valencia, Spain, featuring 22 female drivers in the new ‘Gen3 Evo’ cars for the upcoming season.
The last woman to compete in Formula 1 was Italy’s Lella Lombardi, who raced in 1976.
While the participating drivers have yet to be announced, Formula E emphasized that this test will serve as a vital opportunity for elite female drivers who may not otherwise have a chance to compete.
Each team in the Formula E championship must include at least one female driver for the half-day test scheduled for November, with an encouragement to field two.
Currently, there are no female drivers holding race seats in Formula E.
In total, only three women have raced in Formula E, all during its inaugural 2014 season: British sports car and IndyCar veteran Katherine Legge, Swiss driver Simona de Silvestro, and Italian Michela Cerruti.
