The Ministry of Energy has dismissed demands from the Minority in Parliament for the release of a load-shedding schedule in light of recent power outages, commonly referred to by Ghanaians as ‘dumsor’.
In a statement released on Monday, May 19, Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s Head of Communications, stressed that Ghana’s electricity generation is currently sufficient to meet national needs, even during peak usage times.
“Although we inherited a severely strained power distribution network, the government, along with stakeholders in the energy sector, continues to implement long-term solutions to these issues,” the Ministry noted.
According to the statement, there is no need to introduce a load management timetable, as there is no deficit in generation capacity.
“The country’s present generation capacity can adequately meet peak demand; therefore, instituting a load-shedding timetable is unnecessary at this point,” the Ministry added.
Reiterating its dedication to ensuring stable electricity supply, the Ministry assured the public that it remains focused on resolving distribution challenges to guarantee reliable power delivery across the country.
“The Government remains fully committed to delivering consistent electricity to all Ghanaians,” the statement concluded.
