The inaugural Blackstar Festival has officially been launched at the Accra Tourist Information Centre under the theme: “Ghana Art, Culture, and the Diaspora – Beyond the Return into the Future.”

The event aims to deepen connections between Ghana and the global diaspora through music, art, and cultural experiences.

According to Cyril-Alex Gockel, the festival’s Marketing and PR Lead, the event will be held in two parts: a U.S. edition in Washington, D.C., from September 26–28, followed by the Ghana edition in October. Both will feature live performances, art exhibitions, cultural showcases, and traditional Ghanaian cuisine.

Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture, Wakefield Ackuaku, commended the initiative for its role in fostering national unity and cultural diplomacy. “The festival promotes our identity and development through cultural exchange,” he noted.

The Blackstar Festival will spotlight some of Ghana’s most influential creatives, including Ibrahim Mahama, Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, and Kizito, who have consistently used their art to elevate Ghanaian culture on the global stage.

Organisers say the festival is set to become a major cultural platform that not only celebrates Ghana’s rich heritage but also builds lasting bridges with the diaspora.
