Empowerment Worship Centre has commissioned newly renovated school blocks and a sports facility at Dawhenya D/A Basic ‘C’ in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region.
Established in the 2019/2020 academic year, the school had been facing challenges due to a lack of basic amenities, which hindered effective teaching and learning, according to school authorities.
The commissioning event, facilitated by the Tema Community 25 Campus of Empowerment Worship Centre was held on Wednesday at the school premises and was attended by officials from the district education directorate, past and present staff, opinion leaders, and some parents.
The project involved the renovation of all school blocks, including plastering, painting, and constructing a new basketball court.
According to the church, this initiative aligns with its mission to demonstrate Christ’s love by providing a safe and conducive learning environment that fosters the development of students into responsible citizens.
Lead Global Pastor of Empowerment Worship Centre, Prophet Gideon Danso, emphasized that the church’s responsibility extends beyond its members. He noted that partnering with the state to develop communities is part of their mission.
“We believe that the church has a duty to partner with the state. It has always been the case to develop our communities and we in Empowerment believe in this vision, there are many churches who have led the way like the Methodist church, Presbyterian church, the Catholic church and so on; they’ve always invested in education and we are fairly new but we believe in that mission that we have a commitment and a duty to our community”, he said.
Prophet Gideon Danso also explained that the church focuses on three key factors for improving standards, including education and sports, which is why they are dedicated to enhancing these sectors in their communities.
“…the next thing that can change your life is education. Education is a leveller, a central place; it is the only thing that can change the lives of the rich, the poor, the noble, black, and white, no matter where you are, it can pick you from nowhere and turn your life around”, he added.
The District Director of Education, Solace Osei-Appiah, expressed gratitude to the church for addressing some of the school’s challenges and acknowledged the positive impact of the project on both students and staff.
She however, appealed to NGOs, institutions, and individuals to assist the directorate in addressing other ongoing challenges within the district.
