Speaking on the AM Club on MX24 TV with Miriam Uduak Mensah and Kojo Daasebre, Dr. Emmanuel K. Boateng, a clinician at Meditech Technologies, emphasized the importance of vaccination, stating, “It is safe to get vaccinated. If you have not taken the vaccine yet, it’s important to elevate your personal safety measures.”
Dr. Boateng noted that COVID-19 is a highly contagious airborne disease that primarily affects the respiratory tract, including the nose, throat and lungs. “It is caused by a virus called ‘Sars cov 2‘. It shows symptoms within two to fourteen days with an average of five days.’
It was first identified in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and was later declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
COVID-19 can be transmitted through droplets in the air and can remain on surfaces such as door handles, tabletops, and shared items for extended periods.
To reduce the risk of infection, experts advise the public to wear face masks in crowded places, practice frequent handwashing or sanitizing, maintain social distancing as well as getting vaccinated.
