The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced the suspension of its two-month-long nationwide strike, effective immediately.
This decision comes after a crunch meeting with the Ministry of Labour and Employment Relations (MLER) through the Fair Wages Commission.
The meeting, held today, addressed the pressing concerns of CETAG members, including better working conditions and remuneration packages.
The Association is expected to announce the resumption of academic activities later this week after a yet-to-be-held council meeting.
Additionally, salaries for July and August 2024 are to be paid by the end of this month.
“I am appending my signature to signify the fact that I am committed or the government team is committed to that which we have agreed to in this document,” Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah said.
The strike, which began on June 14, had brought all academic activities to a halt in the 46 public colleges of education across the country.
CETAG’s demands, including the payment of one month’s salary for additional duties performed in 2022 and the application of agreed rates of allowances payable to public universities, were discussed and resolved.
With the strike now called off, students and teachers can look forward to resuming their normal routines.
The academic community welcomes this positive development, hoping for a smooth and uninterrupted academic year.
