The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has introduced a new initiative, dubbed Operation “Red Line,” aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and streamlining street trading in Accra’s Central Business District.

Spearheaded by AMA Chief Executive Michael Kpapko Allotey, the operation forms part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to decongest the capital.

The plan involves painting red lines along pavements and walkways to clearly separate pedestrian zones from areas designated for controlled trading.

In addition to the demarcation, the AMA is carrying out enforcement measures to clear unauthorised structures, remove mobile vendors, and eliminate obstructions that hinder movement on public roads and footpaths.

The enforcement drive entered its second day on Wednesday, May 21, with AMA taskforces taking action at the busy Circle Neoplan Station.

The Assembly says the campaign is part of ongoing efforts to restore order, improve accessibility, and promote safer urban mobility in Accra.
