The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced major progress in the implementation of the government’s “No Fees Stress” initiative, aimed at easing the financial burden on first-year students entering public tertiary institutions.

The initiative, managed through the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), was officially launched on May 12 and is intended to reimburse academic user fees for students enrolled in accredited diploma or degree programmes for the 2024/2025 academic year.

In an update shared via Facebook on Wednesday, May 21, Mr Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that 57,327 students have accessed the dedicated online portal so far, with 41,647 successfully completing the registration process.

He emphasized that completing the registration is a crucial step for students who have already paid their fees, as it allows the government to securely collect banking details for direct refunds. It also helps validate the fee submission records provided by public tertiary institutions.

“This process is essential to ensure that reimbursements reach the right students and that institutions’ submissions are accurate,” the Minister explained.

The “No Fees Stress” policy forms part of a broader effort by the government to improve access to higher education by covering tuition fees through direct payment to institutions or reimbursing students who have already made out-of-pocket payments.
