As Ghana prepare to step onto the World Cup stage in Toronto against Panama, President John Dramani Mahama has delivered a stirring message of unity and pride. He called on the Black Stars to carry the hopes of the nation and play for something far bigger than themselves. The country now waits, fully behind its team, for a defining moment on the global stage.

President Mahama’s message captured the weight of expectation surrounding Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance. He described the moment as a reflection of national resilience and belief, urging the players to rise to the occasion.

“As you stand on the threshold of your first match against Panama in Toronto, the Government and the over thirty million people of Ghana stand firmly behind you,” he said.

The President’s appeal was deeply emotional, rooted in the idea that football is more than a game in Ghana. It is identity, pride, and shared history.

“Play for the flag. Play for the children dreaming of greatness in your footsteps,” he added.

There is a growing sense of anticipation across the country. From Accra to the northern regions, fans are preparing to follow every moment of the campaign. Mahama highlighted that connection between team and nation, saying every Ghanaian heart beats with the players.

He also reached out to supporters abroad, especially in Canada, where Ghana open their tournament. The President called on the diaspora to transform Toronto into a sea of colour and noise.

“To our vibrant diaspora in Toronto and across North America, we charge you to be the ‘12th Man’,” he said. “Let the red, gold and green illuminate the stands.”

Off the pitch, the government has also ensured wider access to the tournament. Broadcast rights have been secured so fans across Ghana can follow every match without restriction, a move the President described as a national gift.

“At home, the Government has ensured that no citizen is left behind,” he said. “We have successfully secured official television broadcast rights.”

The timing of the message comes with added pressure on the squad. Ghana will be without deputy captain Thomas Partey for the opener after his visa application was rejected by Canadian authorities, a setback that has forced tactical adjustments.

Despite that blow, belief remains strong within the national camp. Mahama closed his message with confidence in the team’s ability to shine on football’s biggest stage.

“The world is watching, and we are confident that the Black Star will shine brighter than ever before on this global stage,” he said.

For Ghana, the journey begins in Toronto, but the emotion stretches far beyond the stadium.
