The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has rejected a social media post attributed to him that appeared to criticize Ghana’s Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, describing it as fraudulent and claiming his account had been compromised.
The post, which gained widespread attention on Tuesday, was shared across various platforms and seemed to suggest that the Minority Leader opposed the controversial legislation, commonly referred to as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
In the now-deleted message, the post reportedly argued against criminalizing individuals based on their sexual orientation or personal relationships, stating that such laws undermine fundamental human rights and dignity.
The statement quickly sparked debate online, with many users circulating screenshots amid ongoing national discussions on the recently passed bill.
However, Afenyo-Markin later issued a clarification on his Facebook page, distancing himself from the content and insisting that the account had been hacked.
“Kindly disregard this post. Account was compromised,” he wrote.

Parliament passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, on May 29 after adopting several amendments. The legislation seeks to criminalize LGBTQ-related activities, while providing exemptions for legal practitioners, journalists, media houses, and health professionals acting within their professional duties.
The bill continues to generate intense public debate, with supporters arguing it upholds Ghanaian cultural and family values, while critics warn it may infringe on fundamental human rights and freedoms.
