Ghana’s electricity supply has received a boost following the restoration of another generating unit at the Akosombo Dam.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, announced on Tuesday night that the fourth unit of the dam was successfully brought back into operation at exactly 9:09 p.m.
He described the development as a positive step that will help ease pressure on the national grid amid ongoing demand challenges.
The Akosombo Dam, operated under the Volta River Authority, remains one of the country’s key sources of hydroelectric power and plays a central role in stabilising electricity supply nationwide.
According to the Minister, the restored unit is expected to improve generation capacity at a time when parts of Accra and other regions have experienced intermittent outages linked to technical challenges and rising demand.
He commended engineers and technical teams for the successful work, noting that their effort reflects strong commitment and expertise in restoring the facility.
While the exact megawatt contribution of the unit was not disclosed, energy sector analysts say even incremental gains from Akosombo can significantly improve grid stability during peak demand periods.
The restoration is expected to bring some relief to households and businesses affected by recent power fluctuations, as authorities continue efforts to strengthen generation and distribution infrastructure across the country.
