The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, is expected to hold a major briefing today, Monday, April 27, on recent challenges affecting electricity distribution across the country.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a post shared on his Facebook page.

The briefing comes shortly after the directive for the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company to step aside, pending investigations into a fire outbreak at the Akosombo power control centre.

The incident, which occurred on April 23, significantly impacted the national grid, removing between 720 and nearly 1,000 megawatts of power. This led to a temporary halt in electricity exports and triggered a nationwide assessment of critical energy infrastructure.

In a related development, government has also undertaken a major reshuffle within the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Ashanti Region.

The move follows widespread power outages that affected homes, businesses, and industrial areas in the region in the aftermath of the Akosombo incident.

Authorities say the upcoming briefing will provide further clarity on the situation and outline measures being implemented to stabilise power supply.
