Ghana’s Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has ordered the immediate revocation of three mining leases held by Adamus Resources Limited. The decision follows an investigation that found evidence of illegal mining activities on the company’s concessions.

In a statement dated April 26, 2026, the ministry confirmed that the Akango, Salman, and Nkroful leases have been revoked. It cited confirmed breaches of Ghana’s mining laws. The action was based on findings from the Minerals Commission, which identified unauthorised operations within the concessions.

According to the ministry, Adamus unlawfully subcontracted mining activities without obtaining the required ministerial approval. This violates provisions under the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703). Investigators also found that some operations were carried out without approved mining plans or valid permits from the Chief Inspector of Mines.

The report further revealed lapses in regulatory compliance. The company failed to secure approvals from key agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This raises concerns about environmental safety, operational standards, and proper oversight.

Authorities also flagged the involvement of foreign nationals in illegal mining activities on the concessions. This breaches provisions under the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 995), which restricts such participation.

The decision comes amid a broader national crackdown on illegal mining. Government officials say enforcement will apply to both informal operators and licensed companies. The move signals a stricter approach to regulation and compliance in Ghana’s mining sector.
